Round 2 - Team # 05 (Dominik & Kuldeep) #ftc1516

The Industrial world! Look at its splendours! See the cotton mills in England, with the cloth being deported all around the world after being rolled from the factory floors, ready for many a lady’s fine dress, a fine man’s waistcoat, a young child’s bed covers. See the steam engines rolling down the road; the future of our world! Look how they pump the oil from the ground in Texas, the lifeblood of the nation. And there, in the distance! The suspension bridges are rising to show how we’ve conquered the world, connecting us to the entire world.

Out on the blue of the ocean, can you see it? The steam driven ship comes ever nearer, as her land based brother does, bringing her cargo of coffee and sugar. And there on the horizon, there are the trains on their newly laid tracks. And the chimneys of our iron mills will sprout over every corner of the globe. Is it not spectacular?

Of course, while all you ponses sit up there on your high horses, sipping on your nice tea and coffee, lauding over your ‘great empire’, we’ve got to stay down here, in the mines, digging up the coal that fuels your magnificent machines, where the old men go blind, the children die, and the women lose their unborn children before they even leave the womb. Here we are in your precious linen factories, losing our fingers as the machines slice them off, starving from the low wages.

And where did your money come from to build so many grand places? Ah yes, the colonies, where the slaves do your work, picking and sewing in the sun and mud, whipped for no reason other than their skin colour’s not the same as yours. And their women? You know what, I don’t even want to think about it.

It’s not just the industries your funding is it though. You’ve got those wars too. America wants independence, but England’s not going to give it up just like that, and they’re going to spend a hell of a lot to keep it. And France? Ol’ Bonny just won’t die will he. I suppose Wellington’ll get him soon, but then what? The soldiers’ll come back and we’d all be out of a job. And there’s India too, but what did you expect after all those years of oppression.

As you read this on your computer screen, you may think to yourself “at least it’s not like that now!” Think again.

Even now, there are wars waging in foreign countries. Even now children are dying from hunger because their parents have been killed or are unable to earn enough money to pay for even the smallest of meals.

You think, as you drink the cheep coffee bought for £1, as you look at your watch, play with your expensive necklace and text on your disposable phone, think of the workers who get paid pennies for the sugar cane that sweetens your drink, that risk their lives in unstable tunnels searching for precious stones that fit in your time pieces, who become poisoned by the mines they work in, the children who scrounge around in scrap heaps to find the small bits of metal that is worth their living.

Think about it.

The Industrial revolution is over, but some things will never be.

Abstract and thought-provoking! Really liked how the ending put it all in perspective with today's life. Sketch compliments the writeup. (Not as per the given theme)

*) - Fire

In the midst of a thousand street turns and a million different faces, there lies a green paradise. Once through these gates, the city of London becomes a place, far away. The constant city noise is replaced by rustling autumn trees, as a breeze gently stirs the brown leaves in the grass, squirrels dance. The shadows of the trees offer a retreat. In the middle of the green grass, there is a wide dirt path. A path that has been walked on for longer then the ones who walk on it. As the path twists and turns its way through the shadows and leaves, it leads towards the cry of swans. The water glimmers in the sun as the swans dive to feed beneath the water of the pond.

Behind a curtain of trees, dark brown buildings peek through, wanting their presence to be noticed. The hollow emptiness of windows peer at those who find their path through the trees. The dirty water splashes against the edge of the pond as a swan takes off into the air competing with the roaring of engines above.

A figure approached the pond and settled on a bench under the careful watch of swans.

A faint smell of a smoky fire filled the Man’s lungs. It was dark now, but there was a strong orange glow in the distance. With the sound of crackling and bursting, the man came to notice the animals were nowhere to be seen. Looking up, he froze as the imminent reality became ice inside his heart. In these times of wood what would be left? Few were aware that this city was built to burn. The houses, the markets and carts; all built to burn. The streets were a maze for the trapped, trying to flee an orange plague that was taking the life of the city. The people here knew that plagues were to be feared. They all heard the stories and some had seen the effects of the most feared death. They had all muttered "Black Death" upon their lips in their pasts, and now, they were screaming as the living, orange plague swallowed them.

The Man sat in the orange glow, watching the burning city in the water’s reflection.

It was even darker and there was no fire now. The streets were still. The city was under a curfew; no light was to shine once the sun was set. The Man held his breath as he nervously wrapped a thick jacket around himself. The cold was sinking into his bones. He sat helplessly, frozen to the bench. A siren rang close by and he jumped to his feet. There was a roaring above in the night sky. They had come. A loud noise pierced through the air and rippled through the pond. More explosions rocked the ground and the figure fell to crouch against the bench. He buried his head into the bundle that he made of himself.

Fires had started once more and the orange in the sky darkened. The bombs continued to fall through the thick, heavy smoke. This time, the city could not survive. The figure pressed himself tighter into a human ball. The bombs were getting closer; he could hear them fall through the sky from the planes that flew over in a deafening chorus. Sudden darkness consumed him.

The sunlight hurt his eyes as he opened them. Had he survived? What was left of the city of London? He took a glance around himself. There were no fires, there was no smoke. The tall man rubbed his face and took another slow glance around him. He let out a heavy sigh and settled back into the bench. He jumped at the faint roaring of a plane, and yet another swan took off from the side of the pond. The figure held his face as he convinced himself that it was only a commercial plane. It was a different world to the past.

Who knew, by just looking at this green paradise, that it had survived so much, that it could have burned beyond recognition.
This paradise had survived many horrors in its long life, to become something peaceful and wise. The paradise was unmarked by pain and death and as long as history is made, it will still be the paradise that the people see now.

Round 2 - Team # 03 (Handika & Vyom) #ftc1516

I was four years old on D-Day, June 6th, 1944,I had my cheerios and sliced banana with milk (raw whole milk, not the watered down stuff you drink) and the world was fine by me.

(General Mills introduced on May 1, 1941 originally named CheeriOats. The name was changed to Cheerios in 1945)

To be accurate…

There was a time when the very concept of human freedom was threatened world wide.

In the mid 1930’s, Japan was already at war in China and southeast Asia, reaching for raw materials.

Heads of State knew Germany was re-arming, violating the treaties after world war one. Intelligent people knew the graveyard of Communism in the Soviet Union was destructive of all human values.

That period of time following the Nazi invasion of Poland, until the Air Battle for Britain, the civilized history of the western world was at risk of being swallowed by the darkside of mankind.

The D-Day invasion could have failed. It is said Eisenhower had a speech ready if he had to pull all the troups back to England.

A totalitarian Europe and Russia and an Imperialist Japan, had they not been stopped, would have sent the world into another thousand year dark ages as Christianity did two thousand years ago.

We celebrate those who stand forth to defend our rights and this day is but one to be remembered.

Many hate war, they should not, it is our defense of civilization.

Round 2 - Team # 10 (Eric & Joseph) #ftc1516

*) - The Playing Cards

A child squeals with glee upon seeing a winning combination of cards uncovered upon a rug. It’s 1930, and war hasn’t yet come to this idyllic part of the Japanese countryside. In a small, rural house the family is enjoying a late afternoon sun; the kids play with their new set of karuta cards with their mother while the father sits aside reading the morning edition of the day’s Yomiuri Shimbun. The room is sparsely furnished and the early afternoon sun streams gracefully through the open window.

A light breeze slips playfully into the room unsettling three of the cards, bringing yet more joyous squeals from the children. Their mother smiles serenely at the scene, admiring her two children affectionately. The cards are just new out of their box; the plastic seal still covers the outside of the packet. The images of flowers still retain a healthy look on the cards’ surfaces while their edges still revolt against the signs of misuse. All over Japan, families play with similar decks, but this one will live a life more interesting than many.

It’s now 1942 and an aging father crouches in the mud and grass of Guadalcanal. Amongst his belongings sits an inconspicuous deck of cards, a memento of happier times spent at home. To his left and right colleagues lie in wait of the advancing enemy forces. Their audacity to take on the Empire of Japan marks them for death; a fortunately swift death.

Trees rustle further down the path and the Japanese forces ready their rifles. This is the fourth such skirmish that this old father has fought this week, but it will be his last. The enemy, Americans, are now mere feet away and a cry goes up. The Japanese stream from their hiding places, catching the enemy off guard. Somewhere in the tumult a bullet is fired, catching the young father in a lung. No one knows who fired that bullet but it achieved its purpose and another body cools on the earth of Guadalcanal.

Years pass and we now find ourselves in central Miami. A young girl, maybe eighteen or nineteen stares intently at a collection of Japanese articles in her father’s collection. Many of the pieces are remnants a war long passed; looted from the bodies of the dead or from overthrown quarters. Amidst the collection lies a slightly damaged deck of cards, the girl doesn’t recognise the patterns on the box and it is too early for the name Nintendo Corp. to be widely recognised this side of the Pacific.

Quietly opening the door she reaches into the display cabinet and runs her finger over a well preserved bayonet, a Japanese pistol and ammo clip before settling on the deck of cards. They look out of place amidst the collection of weapons and at the same time bring an air of peace to the instruments of death.

Again the years pass, and our young American girl has grown older and she has a family of her own. Her father, the war veteran lies dying in his bed upstairs and she finds herself once more looking at the collection of artefacts in the display cabinet of her fathers living room. Beside her, her husband eyes the collection greedily; the intention of selling off the collection is clear on his face.

He has already singled out the bayonet for sale, and the pistol and ammo should also earn a tidy sum. In his head he prices the entire collection until he comes to the deck of cards. His gaze rests on the packet for a second before he consigns it to the bin, it wouldn’t even be worth putting them up for sale.

The following year the items have been sold, earning the American woman and her husband a tidy sum. Reluctantly he let her keep hold of the deck of karuta cards which now sit snugly in her handbag. A boat is about to set sail for the Pacific island of Guadalcanal.

Upon landing the American group of veterans and the families of deceased veterans are met by their Japanese counterparts. In silence they leave the historic beaches of Guadalcanal and enter its lush interior. Next to the American woman a Japanese lady, maybe fifteen years her senior weeps quietly. With her fractured Japanese the American learns that the Japanese lady lost her father at Guadalcanal, she was only sixteen at the time of the battle.

Later, upon the site of the Edson’s Ridge confrontation, the American feels compelled to return the cards to their home. As she crouches in to place them on the ground of Guadalcanal, the aging Japanese woman spots them and is reminded of that tranquil summer afternoon, playing cards with her mother and brother while her father reads the Yomiuri Shimbun beside them. Drying fresh tears from her cheeks she crosses to the American and, in perfect English, relates her story. Moved by the woman’s frankness, the American hands her the packet so that they may return home with their rightful owners. They remain there, in a quiet village in Japan to this day.

Round 2 - Team # 17 (Jorge & Ren) #ftc1516

*) - Attack!

A heavy axe fell down on a sailor’s head and gashed it. Jelly pieces of gray and white brain matter flew in different directions. If a hypothetical observer tried to distingish both kinds, he'd have to announce failure, as both were profusely decorated with blood. Also nobody around paid any attention to the brutal event. All soldiers were busy with a fight on the deck of a Byzantine ship, which accidently sailed north of the Black Sea and got to the Volga-river.

Soon after chopping one head, another decapitated one was rolling through the jelly fragments of the mentioned sailor’s brain, or maybe it was one of his comrades's viscera.

The owner of the heavy axe kicked some arm, already cut off but still trembling in convulsions. He cleared his way towards the next opponent.

Guys are not lazy. That’s good! he thought, for a short while wondering a chaotic dance of the shaking arm on the deck.

He was a jarl, the commander of the Viking ship who had just attacked the Byzantine dromon.

He approached his next enemy, and the same tactics succeeded again despite the opponent’s steel helmet. The next hostile seaman made a step back as soon as he realized that he was jarl’s next target. Having seen fear in his eyes, the Viking advanced, with an evil smile. The enemy's blood, which had already splashed his face, now went down making his teeth red.

The seaman was still getting back, but soon he unexpectedly slipped on unidentified viscera which had already profusely covered the deck. Lying among the different body parts, he noticed a liver under his head. It was soft almost like a pillow, and this was the last feeling in his life. The deadly jarl’s axe easily found home in his belly. Too easily. It dived deep into the sailor’s body, came through it, and stuck in the board of the deck. The tip of the axe must have also hurt at least one of sailor's lungs, as the blood splattering out of him was bubbling.

Jarl had problems with releasing his axe from the dead body. He noticed one of his comrades sent Valhallawards by a huge Byzantinian warrior.

I can be the next one, flashed in his head.

Nonetheless, the bully was brought down by two other Vikings and pinned to the deck with his own sword.

The battle was over. Actually, it lasted not much longer than the time needed to read about it.  A surprise and a quick abordage were Vikings’ speciality.

Viking soldiers quickly discovered that the Byzantine dromon was carrying a precious load They just had to look on what was under the deck. They were overjoyed with their finding.

"A huge load of silk!" shouted Swen, the smallest Viking warrior.

His fellow warriors quickly disappeared under the deck to admire their prey.

Only one Byzantine sailor survived the attack. He just gave up in the right moment. The Vikings ordered him to approach the jarl.

“You coward! You have chosen to give up instead of fighting with your fellow sailors. Looking at you, I feel only loath!!!”

The seaman, dirty with blood and viscera was standing with his head down, shaking. In different circumstances he would probably admire jarl’s pure Greek. Not only did the chief of the Vikings know the language, but also spoke very fluently. Indeed, the jarl used to serve in Byzantine army as a mercenary for many years.

The seaman who surrendered was given a task. Jarl ordered him to clean the deck. They had to transport the silk to their ship, and didn’t want it to get dirty with blood.

Sobbing, the Byzantine sailor collected the remains of his fellows, or rather the parts of their bodies and threw them into the river. Several times he had to stop and vomit, unintentionally entertaining the wicked pirates. For them he was a pathetic loser. A quick burial which in a different case could be classified as barbarous was assisted with a quiet prayer and tears of authentic, heavy sorrow.

After he had done the last duty for his mates he was called by the jarl who was standing near the edge of the ship.

Meanwhile, the Vikings washed their clothes and started to move packs of silk to their ship.

The Byzantine seaman approached the jarl, shaking.

Jarl started his speech. He pronounced a big portion of swearing to the seaman, mentioning his cowardiance once again. In the end he said, of course in pure Greek language:

“Despite your cowardiance, I appreciate how you cleaned the deck. You won’t lose your reward. Take the sword!”

The terrified seaman didn’t move a muscle. He was paralyzed with fear.

“Take the sword!” barked the jarl again, and put one of the weapons from the deck into seaman’s hand.

A quick, mighty whizz of air followed the blade of the jarl's axe. The Byzantine seaman’s head was rolling on the deck, leaving fresh red marks on the cleaned board, while a powerful kick sent the rest of his body aboard. There were neither piranhas nor sharks in the river, but other fish species found the sailor tasty. In a hurry, hey were sneaking into the corpse through the hole after the decapitated head. Soon, the smudge of blood spreading over the water hid their horrible feast.

The rest of Vikings applauded jarl’s charity with a roar.

"Instead of condemning the coward, he allowed him to die with a weapon in his hand," said Bjorn, a broad-shouldered rower.

"Maybe Odin would welcome him in the kingdom of Valhalla," added someone else, grinning broadly.

The Vikings got everything they wanted from the dromon. They knocked pots with oil, and spilled it all around the deck and also under it. Then they returned to their drakkar and set the dromon on fire.

“It would be better if Byzantines didn’t know about our pirate attack. Especially if we are not going to change our point of destination.” thought jarl looking at the burning ship.

“Mighty jarl! Are we still going to Midgard, just as you have planned?” asked one of his soldiers.

“Sure Swen. I promised to show you the City of Wonders, and I’ll keep my promise. I’ve been there many times and even served in Varangian guard, as a soldier of the Emperor himself!”

“But we have just robbed and sank one of their ships, killing all the Byzantines…”

“Don’t worry. All the Vikings do such tricks. Soon we'll arrive to them and sell them their own silk which we have just stolen. In the capital of Byzantium we can exchange the silk for gold in the proportion of one to one.”

“But mighty jarl… What is propotion?”

“They will scale the silk and give us the same amount of gold, you idiot!”

The ship almost finished burning. Jarl turned his head and shouted to men holding oars:

“To Constantinople!”

*) - Empty Frame

~Year: 2006~

An empty gold frame rested on the top of Betty Mason's dresser. She knew people thought she was crazy for keeping it there all empty and everything, but she never had the heart to put anything in it. It was meant for one thing and one thing only. She could still remember the day she got it.

~Year: 1943~

"Betty, before I go I want to give you this." Lieutenant Will Mason said as he held package wrapped in brown paper out to her. They were sitting in his car about to say goodbye.

"What is it?" Betty asked with curiosity.

"Open it." and she did. She gazed in awe when she saw what was inside.

"Oh, Will, this must of cost so much. Why?" She asked smiling at him.

"For when I come home. I want you, me, and that little guy inside you, to have a picture taken." Will said, rubbing her stomach gently.

"I'll save it then." Betty said smiling.

"Now, I think I gotta go. Train whistles a blowin'." and with that grabbed his bag from the back and he and Betty got out of the car.

"I'll write whenever I get a chance, I promise and I will return." Will said, sounding determined.

"I'll be waiting for you." Betty said with unshed tears in her eyes.

The two kissed and hugged for the last time before he boarded the train to England.

~Year:1944~

Betty sat and sewed on the sofa while little Willy played in his pen. The radio played some big band in the background. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Betty called as she got up. When she opened the door she saw what she'd hope she'd never have to see. It was an army man, dressed nice and crisp. He took off his hat when she opened the door.

"Mrs. Mason?" he asked, making sure. She nodded her head yes, not trusting her voice.

"I'm afraid to inform you that your husband is dead. He died honorably though. To be honest he saved my life and many others." he said as he played with his hat. He wasn't looking her in the eye, he didn't want to see his pain mirrored back.

Betty broke down right there, she couldn't wait till he'd left. The man in door didn't really know what to do, so he rubbed her back slightly, feeling a little uncomfortable doing so.

"Was he in pain?" Betty finally asked, the man looked at her slightly confused.

"When he died, was he in pain?" she asked.

"I don't think so, he died instantly. I was right next to him." the man said.

"Thank you, sir, but if you don't mind I'd like to be alone with my son now." she said quietly and the man nodded his goodbye and left.

~Year:2006~

Betty walked into her room to get something before she left to go to the airport. She was going to see her grandson graduate from Lackland. She was proud of him, she stopped though on her way out to look at the frame, although no image was in it, she still would stop once and a while. Her son, Will, had faught in Vietnam and had stuck with the job. He was now a Major in the Army. William Mason III had followed his father's and grandfather's steps in the military and was about to graduate from Air Force basic training. Betty wouldn't miss this graduation for anything in the world.

R2 Participatory Entry (Team # 09)

Team 09) - Rory Jasper McGinnity – Evans Elise

Round 1 Entry not submitted

Round 2 (Participatory Entry)*

Aye mate, a remember when we were ower at Barry Budden barracks near Carnoustie (Dundee way.) We awe loaded intae the back o' trucks The hale 4th/5th battalion Royal Scots fusiliers there wis hundreds o' us, fae awe airts an' pairts o' Ayshire: Kilmarnock, Cumnock, Irvine, Ayr etc.

We three, masel' an Tam Stowe came fae Mauchline (along wi' a few ithers) an Peter Bulloch fae Ballochmyle, his faither wis the gowf club manager at that time (1965 or 66).  Anyway away we awe went, fur miles and miles an' we were awe singin' Royal Scots, Royal Scots, Fusiliers from Ayr............... Magic,  An' Hey wee man wi' the big stick in yer han' will ye play a simple melody..... Pure dead brilliant, can ye imagine awe us, hunners o' so'dgers awe singin' like linties. It was an amazin' sound.

Finally we arrived at oor destination, where, we didnae ken, awe we knew wis we had tae break up intae 3 man-teams and dig a hole big enough fur three, (Peter, Tam an masel wis oor three) and tae get intae it in a sittin' up position completely covered an' camouflaged.

This we did, the hale battalion, hunners o' holes, here there an' everywhere, the next we kent wis a spotter aircraft flew ower oor position takin' aerial photographs tae see how weel camouflaged we were. When we heard it fleein' ower us, me, Tam and Peter louped oot oor hole an' waved at the plane................   Whit a laugh. Oops!!!!!

Next we new the Captain Adjutant wis shoutin' doon oor hole 'Stowe and Welsh, come with me'. Oh-oh we thought, we're in big trouble, but no, when we clambered oot oor hole he says 'We're off on night manoeuvres, bring your radio Welsh'. It wis then a thought why did a hufty take that radio course? Numpty! Off we went.

We had travelled for what seemed hours looking for the enemy camp (Occupied by another Scots battalion, a mock battle.) and now it was getting very dark. The captain Adjutant says to us, to stay where we were while he went on ahead, so we did and immediately lit up oor fags. While we lay back lookin' up at the stars relaxin', we noticed a sentry up on the hill.................Panic set in, we extinguished oor fags rapid. As oor eyes got more accustomed to the dim darkness we realised we were right in the middle of the 'enemy' camp.

The Captain appeared saying 'Didn't you see me signal you to come to me?' 'No sir.' we said, thinkin whit a balloon! We couldnae see him never mind his signal. Anyway, he said 'Radio back to headquarters and give them the enemies camp co-ordinates Welsh'.

I tried a few times, but couldnae contact H.Q. and so I told the Captain,  'Because we were in a hollow my signal was just bouncing and I can't get through'. The Captain muttered to himself and then told us to follow him, so we did, incredibly all the way safely back tae camp, phew!

We wis just settlin' doon fur a wee snooze when we were told to assemble at the double. We wis goin' tae attack............... Aff we goes.

The Captain Adjutant showed the way, we followed and so did the rest o' the Battalion and did so very quietly indeed, amazin'. After a while we stopped behind a long long ridge. We were told to pass the word that the 'Enemy' wis oan the ither side o' the ridge.

Me an' Tam baith sis we didnae recognise this place. But anyway I was told to radio back to H.Q. and give them our co-ordinates. I did so with my fingers crossed. This time success, I got through and gave them our position.

Within seconds the dark sky was illuminated for miles, it was like a John Wayne war picture at the Odeon Picture house, It was really somethin'. The call went up, CHARGE, off we went pipes blairin', over the ridge we went, CHARGE, right intae the sea................................    ..

Oh Naw!!!!!!!

R2 - Participatory Entry - Remote (Team # 11)

Team 11) -  Yohan Haash – Jen Steen

Round 1 Entry not submitted

Round 2 - Participatory Entry*

It was just another same old boring day of school today as usual and second hour’s class had barely just begun. Ugh! World History, my oh so favorite class of the day. There I was, sitting at my poorly mistreated beaten up desk, looking through the dark and gloomy prison bars that held me captive till 3 O’ Clock later that day; I wondered when I will ever leave this horrendous classroom, oh wait, I guess I have left it for looking down at my dinged up desk I saw that this weeks lesson plan for the male human anatomy in Biology…….I’d rather be back in World History class instead. Out of the blue this Banshee like scream is echoing down through the dirty hallways and shook the very walls of my drab penitentiary.
Then the hideous colored red door opened without notice and was slammed against the wall that usually faces to its right, until now, a beast with long straggly fur, beady red eyes, razor sharp claws protruding from skeleton like hands, leaving its grotesque outline on what used to be called ‘a wall’. It breathed so heavily that the revolting stench that came from it made the kid in the far right hand corner of the class to pass out onto the floor. Everyone in the class room was quivering in their boots from the sheer creepiness that radiated from the beast that even the teacher passed out onto the floor, with the same kid drawing mustaches on everyone’s face that passed out in the class. I, still sitting in my decrypted seat, payed no attention to the beast and was still in deep thought, now thinking about Cats VS Derp whales in an epic battle of the ages.
I could feel that something was staring at me intently, but it was more of a stalkerish way of staring at someone; I slowly began to look over in the way of where the beasts was and what I saw was simply the most terrifying thing a sane normal teenage girl can ever imagine in her life to experience….another teenage drama queen trying to get the world to realize her and her daily “tortures” that she goes through everyday.
She darted off towards my direction and screamed at the top of her lungs, so that God himself could hear her plea:
“Amy!” the girl shouted hysterically “AMY!!!”
“Just ignore her Am, if you ignore her she might go away after a while.” I quietly muttered to myself “Just ignore her.”
“Amy!!” she said glomping onto me such force that I swear I smelled Chinese food from the ground below me “Amy, Amy, Amy, AMY!!” she blathered her sour tears into my shirt.
“What is it Emma, what is the problem?” I said trying to comfort her “What is the matter Emma, did someone wear the same outfit as yours today?”
“This is serious Amy!”
“Okay okay, sheesh, just trying to cheer you up.”
“Well your doing a terrible job at it, what a good friend you are! Why is everyone being mean to me?!”
“Woah, woah, woah what are you going on about now? No one is being mean to you, its you that’s being mean to everyone especially that poor door over there, what made you think of such a silly thing like that?”
“If I told you do you promise not to laugh at me?” she asked solemnly with puppy dog eyes.
“I promise on my great great grandkitties grave that I shan’t laugh at you, no matter how stupid or non-important it may seem in my eyes, I will not giggle, chuckle, laugh, snort, or any other noises that may seem like I am making fun of you. I promise.”
“Okay.” Emma said taking in a breath and then went full on speed “Well my so called “friend” Tasha is such a-”
“Watch your language” I calmly said.
“- butterbean! She’s been saying mean and just plain mean things behind my back for the past two weeks!”
“Yes continue.” I said eating my imaginary popcorn.
“And she hasn’t been a very good friend lately because she is like paying more attention to her school work instead of me, who likes to do school work anyway?”
“People who have more of a vocabulary than what you have.” I thought to myself.
“She was so like rude to me today for she said ‘Hi’ to me! Hi! You don’t say hi to me I prefer a welcome like “Your eminticaflabo” or something like that!”
“Can’t even say “your eminence” correctly.”
“But what I’m trying to say is that we were supposed to do a project together in this—what is this class again?”
“It’s World History Emma. We’ve been in it for the past semester now.”
“Whatev. Well guess what! Go ahead guess what she did!”
“Uhmmm you stumped me there. What terrible thing did she do?”
“SHE FORGOT TO BRING THE REMOTE FOR OUR PRESENTIATION!! How can someone so cruel and evil do a thing like that?! Tell me Amy that you agree with me that what she did was just so not cool! Amy?”
I then began to stare at my friend Emma, with the un-amused cat face, for about three to four minutes seeing if she got the hint that I thought that that was such a silly thing to cry over about. I then began to think to myself for a moment:
“She did all of that over a remote? She screamed making everyone’s ear bleed, broke the door and the wall, made almost everyone faint and let the kid draw mustaches on the unconscious victims, almost pinned me to the ground, and ruined my favorite cat shirt with her pathetic tears of sorrow……there is only one word that can be able to describe her. Stupid.”
“Amy, you okay?” Emma asked curiously waving her hand in my face as if I spaced out.
I then bopped her on her forehead and then simply said with a straight face:
"Could’ve had a V8.”
